Highlight of the year
I just returned from 6 months of travelling, but ‘Highlight of the Year’ came on my first day back home… My brother threw a surprise wedding.
Tbh, I was pretty keen for a chilled (yet delightful) engagement party in the backyard, it had been a hectic return leg and I was exhausted.
Leaving Europe, I got stopped in Dubai without a Visa to enter India (that’s a whole other story!)
Made it to India for a frantic week of Cricket World Cup action, visits to universities, and a bout of food poisoning.
From India, flew to Brisbane to surprise Dad, where I also met up with Ryan and we ran 3 sportsgrad events in 3 days in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
Late on that Friday night after the Melbourne event, I finally got home and ended my trip.
Fast forward 12 hours, I’m at my brother’s engagement party in their backyard and listening to the couple share a quiz about their relationship.
“Question #6… what day is our wedding day?”
There was a pause.
“Today” Ben confirmed.
Everyone went up in celebration.
It was the best surprise ever, I’d never felt so proud of my brother.
Then came the flurry of limbs trying to coordinate a new itinerary.
Now I’m raiding Ben’s cupboard for a shirt and jacket (cus I did NOT dress for a wedding!) and we were off on buses for the ceremony and reception.
It was one of the best nights of my life, and my family’s first wedding.
After experiencing so many exciting events overseas:
The Ashes at Lord’s, Le Tour de France, even Glenn Maxwell’s World Cup 201*
It was a wonderful reminder that nothing beats quality time with loved ones.
Glad to be home.
